The categories of membership are as follows:
Constituent Membership - Voting
This category of membership is open to all Asian-Indian
organizations and organizations that support the interest of the
Asian-Indian Community and can be obtained by applying for it. These
organizations shall either have 501 (c) (3) status or be eligible to get
one from IRS. These organizations shall be in existence for at least
three years.
Constituent Membership - Limited Voting
This category of membership is open to Asian-Indian organizations
(except religious organizations) and organizations that support the
interest of the Asian-Indian community and can be obtained by applying for
it. These organizations shall either have 501 (c) (3) status or be
eligible to get one from IRS. These organizations cannot vote on
constitutional amendments.
Constituent Membership - Non Voting
This category of membership is open to Asian-Indian organizations
(except religious organizations) and organizations that support the
interest of the Asian-Indian community and can be obtained by applying for
it. These organizations shall be non-profit organizations and are in
active existence for less than three years after it is formed. These
members shall not have any voting rights either in the Board of Directors
or General Assembly meetings.
Student Body Membership
This category of membership is open to any Asian-Indian student
organization registered in the respective universities/colleges and
functioning under the recognition of the university/college. Preferably
shall have a constitution and bylaws. Student organizations cannot vote
on constitutional amendments.
Honorary Membership
This category of membership can only be conferred by CIO on
individuals or institutions. These members do not have voting rights in
the organization.
Sustaining Membership
This category of membership is open to individuals who support the
CIO constitution. These members do not have voting rights in the General
Assembly.
Organizations that do not have 501 (c) (3) classification from the IRS
on their own shall not claim any advantage under section 501 (c) (3) of
the
IRS by virtue of being a member organization of CIO.
